Challenge
Construction on a large building was underway and an offset joint was discovered in a 36” PVC pipe. This joint had a visible leak and the system required repair before it could be put into use at the end of the above-ground construction. A trenchless solution was preferable so that construction would continue uninterrupted.
Engineered Solution
Standard-wide HydraTite Internal Pipe Joint Seal was the chosen solution to eliminate this leak quickly and without affecting the construction.
Scope
The client ensured that the pipe was entirely prepared when HydraTech’s technicians arrived. A tripod to assist when entering the pipe was set up, and proper air ventilation was established. As the pipe had not yet been put into use, there was a minimal amount of prep work required for installation; a small amount of clay was removed. The joint was separated by approximately ¼” and the offset was approximately ¾”. Once everything was in place, the installation was finished in only 20 minutes. Due to the leak being very active and the seal not allowing any water to infiltrate the pipe, opening the air testing port allowed water to spray into the pipe. Despite this, the seal passed the air test.

Solution
HydraTech’s technicians rehabilitated this pipe with the HydraTite seal incredibly fast without disturbing the above-ground construction. This seal will prevent this joint from leaking for a fraction of the cost associated with digging and replace.
