Repairing A 4-Inch Pipe While Keeping The Vessel In Operation

Aging and deterioration resulted in a steel suction line leaking deep in a forward ballast tank in a tug boat. Deeper investigation revealed the culprit to be a compromised 4” elbow pipe. Replacement would be highly labor-intensive and time-consuming, so the shipyard general manager opted to repair the existing pipe. Marine HydraWrap was used to repair the system and keep the vessel in operation without the need to remove the existing pipe or perform hot work.
