HydraTite® (Internal Joint Seal System)
Groundwater Inflow Infiltration
Infrastructure repair /site remediation
Repair joints to eliminate groundwater inflow & infiltration. The analysis of the groundwater had revealed traces of oil. All the discharge of the HDPE piping system is routed to the Mahoning River.
Sections of the 60″ diameter HDPE piping system had become deformed due to soil loading which resulted in joint displacement along with varying degree of pipe ovality. Sealing the pipe joints would require a method that could accommodate the distortion of the pipe and remain flexible for further deformation or movement in the pipe.
The HydraTite® internal joint seal system was selected as a solution for repairing the joints in the HDPE piping system. HydraTite® seals are mechanical joint seal installed on the interior of the pipe to span the pipe joints or any point defect. The HydraTite® seal consist of a flexible rubber membrane which is position over the joint and compressed to the host pipe on either side of the joint with stainless steel retaining bands. The flexibility of the rubber membrane and retaining bands enable the seal to conform to the pipe wall profile. A water tight seal is achieved by compressing the rubber membrane with the retaining bands using hand held hydraulic pumps.
